From what it is known it only has problems with Gateway and Laser Squad (needs verification though since I've had reports that it works fine in these 2...). Maybe there is another game out there that does not work OK but for 99% of them it's OK and it does support intelligent mode.
The problem is that this needs verification. Maybe there is a newer firmware out there and the games work or something... If you don't care about these 2 then grab it IMHO.
I'm also waiting for one, maybe we can exchange firmwares after testing 😉

thanks for the info. I think I may grab it then. I have a true Roland midi card in a diffrent computer so for the 1 or 2 games that wouldn't work with this one Id just use that PC. I've read a few things about certain music quest cards not being mpu-401 and since this one didn't have any specific identification such as mqx-16 or 32 I just wanted some verification.

I had one of those same cards, you can read about it in my 386 build thread in System Specs.
I never had a problem with any games but I didn't try the two keropi mentioned.
It looks like it's missing the 9-pin to dual 5-pin DIN connector so you'll need to build or acquire one to use it.

If you are squeamish, don't prod the beach rubble.

Right. Very strange nonetheless. 😀 And the seller should list it then.

Did the seller tell you why you received a second chance offer? I won this item and already paid. I do not mind you receiving it but I would like to understand why the seller is acting the way he is.

I have no idea. he didn't say. I got the email a few hours after the auction ended. I would assume he had 2 of them. if all else fails and shenanigans are going on and say I get the card and you don't. get the paypal refund and i'll just sell you the card for the same price you paid him which is only about a $1 less then my 2nd chance offer is. I want it but if your the one that won it you should have it.

get it soviet conscript , if there is no break-out cable I'll give you info to build one once mine arrives 😉
as DK says it's a nice little card

thanks, I'm not all that handy with home made cables so I'll probably end up commissioning someone to make it for me or try to track down one of those adapters. When i decided I wanted the card I had just assumed the db9 to midi cables were common and easy to get.

this will be the last piece of hardware needed to complete my 386 build! very similar to DK's build except its a tower case and I went the SCSI route for CD-ROM and hard drive.

It is a DOA. It has scratches on the rear of the PCB.

That might be a subject to resurrection, depending on the damage done. I got my DB50XG resurrected once by a skilled man.

Thanks for the tip on the jumper. Do I need 2 jumpers then? One on p and one on an irq (mines set to 2 I think). Sorry yours is dead. I got mine in a plastic bag (no anti static bag) and brown cardboard to cushion it. It looks ok, no visible issues with the card but I'm still working on getting cables, can't test it till then.

well, I think mine works then. I installed silpheed to the hard drive and selected the mt-32 option for sound and the game plays fine. should I still be getting sound effects from the PC speaker (shooting, explosions ect) with mt-32 chosen? I assume its doing just music which obviously i'm getting none of since I lack a cable but I watched a video of a guy playing it online with an mt-32 and I couldnt hear any sound effects though I assume maybe there drowned out by the music?
