Hi, and thanks for this wonderfull program,

Windows XP Pro
CPU 1.8 GHZ
512 physical ram MB Ram
etc.

VDMSound is working ok for me, the contextual option "Run with VDMS" works ok (this option is really fantastic), but i have a problem, i can't use an administrator user for security reasons, my user is a limited user, when i need to do something that require administrator rights, i use "Run as" option at contextual menu of the program and use an administrator user just for that program, but here is the problem, some games need to work with administrator rights, but if i use "Run as" i can't use "Run with VDMS", i can use a fix, i can run a dox box with administrator rigths, and then set blaster environment to "BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 H5 P330 T6", and then run DosDRV, but here i have another problem, i don't know how configure memory options for Dos Box, like i can do with "Run with VDMS", someone can explain me how configure manually options (enable expanded memory, set expanded memory to 16mb, enable basic VESA Support, etc.) from a Dos Box for VDMSound?

Thx in advance for your help.

Hi again,

¿Is there a way to run a .vlp file from a dosbox?

No, but why not create a .vlp *for* the dos box itself?

Because the "Run with VDMS" don't show in contextual menu of DOS Box, ok, i can try do it manually (using notepad), or change the option "DOS command Line" of properties of vlp file at VDMSound tab, but here when i give a double clik to vlp file, the file send an error "The file 'C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe' does not appear to be a valid MS-DOS executable or batch file. Do you want to continue?", if i press ok, the cmd run, but has some problems, the new dos box don't recognize the admin user when i use "RunAs" command from line command and i have the problem yet that is not runing with administrator rights.

Ok, vladr is ok, i make a vlp for cmd, then i can configure properties of vlp, and then, when i'm at dos box, get the directory of the game and run next command for to get administrator rights:

RunAs /env /user:MiPC\Administrator "Program.exe"

where "MIPC" is the name of the machine and "Program.exe" the name of .bat or .com or .exe of executable of the game, for now, it looks like is working ok, if i found something else, i'll put it here. Just one problem i have found here, and is the Error Messege that VDMSound send, telling "The file 'C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe' does not appear to be a valid MS-DOS executable or batch file. Do you want to continue?", but if you press ok, looks like if all si working ok.

I hope this help to something else.

No, an error from me, last Message is an error 🙁 , when RunAs command is running, it lost the VDMSound Driver, the game don't recognize the driver, maybe RunAS load another dos box and this lost the VDMSound Driver, i'm making new test looking for a solution, if i found something, i'll put it here.

OK, why would you want to "run as" something with VDMSound??? Just trying to understand the problem. I can tell you right now that "Run as" a .vlp won't happen because that wuld require actually "Run as"-ing explorer (LaunchPad loads as a DLL under explorer.exe and/or iexplorer.exe), but maybe what you're trying to achieve can be reached in a simpler and more natural way.

I will try to explain me (sorry, my english is VERY BAD), check next facts:

1.- I'm using Windows XP Profesional (i think the problem in home edition is the same)
2.- I can't use an administrative account for security reasons, my account is a limited account.
3.- Some games (like The Dig, inclusive some new games) require administrative rights.
4.- I can use option "Run as" from contextual menu of a program, to grant administrative rights just for THAT program.
5.- I need to use "Run with VDMS" for set options like memory or basic VESA, etc, in games.
6.- When i rigth click an icon of a .vlp program "Run as" option isn't there.
7.- I can't use "Run as" and "Run with VDMS" options from contextual menu in a program at the same time.

now, here is the problem, i need to run a game that need administrative rights in a limited account and configure some VDMSound options that are in "Run with VDMS" option.

Sorry by my bad english 🙁

OK, "DIG" (or any DOS game for that matter) doesn't need you to be administrator; rather, grant full permissions to everyone on the directoy/directories in which the game was installed (e.g. C:\DIG) and run normally!
