Latest acquisitions (pix coming soon..)

Boxed Creative Game Blaster
Boxed Gravis Ultrasound 3.73 (Upgraded to 1MB)
Boxed Roland CM-64
Boxed Creative CT-4520 AWE64 (Value Edition)
Boxed ATI All-In-Wonder 128 Pro
Boxed ATI All-In-Wonder 128
Boxed Creative Voodoo2 8MB
Boxed Orchid Righteous 3D (Voodoo1)
Boxed Creative Sound Blaster Pro CT-1330A Rev 5
Boxed (Sealed/New Old Stock) Canopus Pure3D (Voodoo1)
Matrox G400 MAX

That's a LOT of boxed items! 😁

Anyway, my trophies for this week include:
A s478 motherboard with SiS chipset (the one that supports DDR-400) along with a 2.8GHz Northwood (the "800 version") and HSF
One white DVD drive, one white DVD burner and one silver DVD drive, all three are IDE of course
A Radeon 9600 with 256MB memory
Some other more unremarkable components like a firewire card and a NIC and a PSU with 30A on the 12v line which unfortunately has a leaking cap.
All mentioned above were in a computer I bought at a thrift store (except the silver DVD drive), the computer case itself is quite unremarkable I think.
Also I got some hoontech ST128PCI sound card PCI with a SIMM module seated in it's memory slot (couldn't find a driver for it on the net though)
An old Quadro card (looks like a GF2 or GF3) AGP
An English Windows 98FE disk which already came very handy because of it's msbatch tool.
A physx card made by Asus, still have to attach the original HSF to it and it seems to not have a slot bracket.
Some RIMM modules...
And last but definitely not the least: A Pentium Pro 200 with 512kb cache!

All of this cost me around 35,50 euro 😁

Whats missing in your collections?

Scored a Dell Precision 620 MT Workstation. Waiting on another P3 Xeon 1Ghz SL4HE, since this only came with the one. I do have another pair of them, but they don't have the proper heatsink for the board's retention mechanism. Got lucky and bought one that has the right heatsink.

Unfortunately the seller didn't pack this properly, nor did they mark the package as fragile... so the case is essentially trashed. Most of the tabs have broken off the plastic base, some of the front panel tabs are broken and the side panel no longer latches in place because the lugs on the top are broken.

Gonna be moving the guts to another case... after extensive modding since this board is non-standard.

I approve of this! Real shame about the shipping. can it be fixed?

Possibly, but the case itself appears slightly warped as well near the rear-bottom corner.

Consider your self lucky to even have it let alone not be in any worse condition, I got the lower end version that used normal slot 1. Still these big Dell workstations are a dream when it comes to smp and much higher ram limits, with the repeater hubs the north bridge can handle 2GB outright.

Well, I got my tax refund check in the mail last week and thought I would save it for the future. 😒

Here is just some of the things I bought!

1. 6x 1gb pc133 ecc/reg sdram dimms - http://www.ebay.com/itm/121288981097 - These are going into a Tyan S2688 with a pair of 1.4g P3 tuallatins.
2. Seagate ST-157L 45mb hard drive - http://www.ebay.com/itm/231164068865 - I already have one, but this one was poorly listed and for the price, I couldn't resist
3. pair of 1.44mb IBM FDD - http://www.ebay.com/itm/321238454357 - I was lucky to find these! Another poorly worded listing. These are going to replace the 720kb drives I have in my IBM model 25's
4. couple fans for an old ATI HD4790 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/121272426105 - Because i'm going to put said 4790 to work hashing LTC
5. 5x dallas DS12887 cmos chips. - http://www.ebay.com/itm/130926180657 - for my model 25/30 setup and other motherboards...
6. 3x 80287XL math-co processors - http://www.ebay.com/itm/131132553717 - got 3 for the price of one! Hopefully at least one works. I do have 3 possible boards to fill.
7. IBM model 30 ram expansion board - http://www.ebay.com/itm/191019336764 - Paid more than I wanted to, but it comes filled with ram. I hope the memory sticks are 1mb each, but are probably 512k or 256k.

And a few other things but not really relevant here. So much for "saving for the future", eh? 🤣

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Arg, just got my refund. So hard not to binge on some stuff I've had on my watch-list.

Got some cheap graphics coolers from eBay asia:

No idea if they are any good, but one day I will actually have the time to try them out 😀

Will use a card that has an on-die temp sensor first to see how effective they are.

Didn't actually get these today, as these came from that big haul I got from a friend's father who had passed away. Was digging through the boxes when I had some time today and found these. Figured they were interesting enough to show off considering they are boxed and complete.

Soundblaster 16 CT2290:

Boxed Adapter 2940UW:
scsi.jpg

This one is interesting as the box looks retail but there are two sets of disks, one adaptec branded, the other Dell. The card itself has a dell part number sticker on it. Also has a cd copy of EZ-SCSI Deluxe with it, so that's cool I guess.

Did Dell sell boxed retail versions of their add ons? I thought everything they sold as upgrades, etc came in OEM packaging back then.

Cool, is that an Epson? Gots me one recently too and am impressed, very handy hardware.

It was pointed out to me that there's a jumper on it for swapping the drive letters.

Some stuff I've picked up the last period of time.

Canopus Pure3D Voodoo Graphics 6MB (1997) Homemade fan installed.

Canopus Spectra 5400PE TNT2 Ultra (1999)

AMD K5 P100 - 100mhz (1996)

New old stock, Elitegroup SI54P AIO Socket 5 SIS motherboard (1994)

2014-03-12%2022.54.13%20HDR.jpg

ASUS PCI/I-P54TP4. Socket 5 430FX w/ 512kb L2 async DIP cache (1995). This was ASUS's first 430FX board! It was capable of supporting the Intel 133mhz. It came in three versions, one with 256kb DIP cache, the one pictured with 512kb DIP cache and one with hardwired 256kb Pipeline burst cache. It was quickly replaced later the same year by the P/I-P55 models which had higher multiplier support. Supports 40mhz FSB and RTC is still good 😀
2014-03-12%2022.59.11.jpg

ASUS PCI/I-P54SP4. Socket 5 SIS chipset w/ 256kb L2 asyns DIP cache (1994). One of the early Socket 5 boards. Very slow, but with a great amount of BIOS settings, including PCI clock. Allows 40mhz FSB setting as well. Great board as an alternative to Socket 3! RTC still works!
2014-03-12%2022.59.47%20HDR.jpg

ASUS P/I-P55TP4XE. Socket 7 430FX w/ 512kb L2 PB COAST module & optional PS/2 bracket connector (not in picture) (1995). This was ASUS's highend board in 1995 and into 1996. Released in autumn 1995. Supports all up to the 200mhz Pentium (233 by 1.5x). The P55TP4 versions were:
-P55TP4 - Only async cache, no COAST module socket
-P55TP4XE - Sold with either 256/512 Async cache or 256/512kb COAST module (I got hold the best cache option). IR connector
-P55TP4XEG - Same as XE, just without IR
-P55TP4N - Released a bit later. 256kb PB cache hardwired to the board with COAST module for another 256kb.
Unfortunately the board was damaged in shipping and the DIN connector came loose, as the board only came in a thin padded envelope! I need to solder on a new one. Still powers on fine.
2014-03-12%2023.00.26%20HDR.jpg

The loose DIN connector.

The envelope the board came in. There were no more protection on the board itself! Got a full refund from the seller.

I should desolder that broken DIN connector en soldering a new one in.. Soldering those DIN connectors it very easy to do.

~ At least it can do black and white~

Interesting that ASUS PCI/I-P54SP4 is slow. I thought the SiS 501/502/503 chipset was supposed to be a winner...

Slowest chipset I've tested so far of my Socket 5 boards. I've written more about it here: Why no love for Socket 5?. I'll post more results here later: Pipeline burst cache performance boost on Socket 7 - benchmark results

Did a local trade and filled up my mazda with lots of old gear. Tandy 1000 RL (bad shape) Packard Bell 486, Fluke 9010A, and a Compaq SLT 286 laptop plus lots of other things. Two large boxes of misc boards and cards. I think that all together I brought home about 10 or so rigs along with everything above.
