I'm trying to run the Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes 1 using VDMSound, but there is no mouse support (sound is fine). Also, when I use the arrow keys, they sometimes work and sometimes don't. And the cursor always goes left no matter which arrow key I press.

Any ideas on how to fix the mouse issues?

Thanks

Run install.exe and try to disable sound for digital device (change sound devices - digital device - no sound). You can also run the game in DOSBox - mouse + both musical device and digital device should work fine there.

I vaguely remember that i had to use mouse on com (mouse on ps/2 didn't work). But i am not sure whether it affects winxp.

If it is the "case of the serrated scalpel" i have run it under Windows XP without problem. Just make sure you disable usage of ems memory.

That did work (disabled sound), but what's the point of disabling sound? I mean, that whole point of VDMSound is for sound support right? Heh. It is Case of the Serrated Scalpel.

How would I disable ems memory? Which file do I modify? I'm using WinXP. I've tried to go to the properties of game.exe, go to the MEMORY tab and set 'Expaned (EMS) Memory' to none, but that didn't work

DosBox doesn't work for me (in full screen) as my monitor does not support it.

Thanks

The option for disabling use of Expanded Memory is inside the game configuration. I don't recall if it was setup.exe install.exe or whatever. Look for it. 😎

Found the EMS disabling option in the setup. But that didn't fix the problem...

Any more ideas, heh?

I have almost run out of ideas. Have you tried the different SB options? I mean, different types of SB cards.

Well there was only 1 SB card available, heh. I just tried that one. I'm still trying to figure it out. Thanks for your help.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I tried running the game with VDMSound, but there was no mouse control even though it was enabled as an input device (hand icon could be moved by keyboard, otherwise it just kinda floated around the screen). The game also ran VERY slowly. I then tried DOSBox...and it works perfectly...mouse, digital sound and music, proper speed. I'd go with the DOSBox in this case.

OK, but is there anyway to alter the max resolution in DOSBox. I think full screen by default is 320x200 in DOSBox, and 320x240 in VDMSound. 320x200 won't work in my PC, so can I change it in DOSBox?

Thanks

I've never tried it, but you can try changing the fullscreen fields in DOSBox.conf like so:

fullscreen=true
fulldouble=false
fullfixed=false
fullwidth=320
fullheight=240
