Both Event Horizon and Sleepless work on my GUS PnP. I expected problems with Sleepless because of its MP3 soundtrack, but if you choose the GUS classic/ACE driver it works fine (the GUS PNP driver is broken).

However, the MP3 soundtrack made me remember one well-known demo which needs a fast PC and doesn't work with GUS: State of Mind / Bomb.

Other than that, I've found two more SB-only demos in my collection, but to be honest, you're not missing much if the sound doesn't work:
Dark Side of the Sun / Apocalypse Inc.
Sublime / Cimedia

There are only a few demos which let you choose higher resolutions than 640x480, most of them run at lower resolutions or employ big fat "widescreen bars" to keep the amount of pixels down.

Yeah, there was Vertigo's Nature that allowed up to 1024x1024, but uses Glide. Wasn't sure if the poster was trying to support 3dfx/Glide or not. I'd be interested in recommendations for high-resolution DOS Demos beyond these: Vertigo-Nature, Wildlight-Adrift, KFMF-Trip, Buckshag-Shortcut.

Regarding "late" DOS demos, they are still being released even today...

...though primarily in the 32b, 64b, 512b compos. Rather fast modern CPUs are needed for some of such.

Maybe GUS is fine then, alone.

Elianda, do you think the 1400C is overkill for the DOS demos I am targeting? Would I be better off with a P3 800 or so, ISA slot count aside?

My goal here is just to experience the last DOS demos that used VESA and needed heavy CPU. My recent 5x86 160 build will get me to 1997, but after it's too weak.

This is for DOS demos _without_ 3D acceleration as late as they came.

Is a P3 800 all I need? Athlon 1400C too much? What's the sweet spot. I will use a GUS, likely. There's a GUS in my 5x86, of course.
