Hi everyone.

I stumbled upon this site yesterday when searching for info on an old XT board. You've inspired me to build a retro PC for all my old games, emulation just isn't the same.
So far I've managed to find everything I need to assemble a Pentium 133. Wish me luck. Will attach pics when I learn how to.

So far I have the following:

Old AT case (the cover seems too be a bit to long though)
Unknown motherboard (Intel VX430 chipset) + P133 chip. The heatsink fan has the Mecer brand on it which is a local OEM PC manufacturer in South Africa.
4x 8MB 72PIN SIMMS
S3 Trio 64V+ 1MB (I'm sure have a 2MB lying around somewhere)
Creative CT5808 (Is this a PCI 128?)
Quantum Fireball 4GB
Opti USB card
52x CD Rom
3.5 floppy
5.25 floppy

Wanting to load Windows 98SE, any advice on writing a boot disk? My P4 with floppy drive was stolen a few months ago.

Hello and welcome to Vogons! 😁

A boot disk, have you looked online for one?
What parts/computers do you have laying around? In your case it would be best to create a new bootdisk from one of your existing systems.

Whats missing in your collections?

Thanks bud. So far, the S3 is dead, tried a Tseng 4000 which is also dead. Found an old card from a 386, has an HMC chip on. Will need something beter for Duke3D and Quake.

Seems like the HDD already has Win98 loaded, will try create a boot disk from there. Holding thumbs.

It is a shame that Tseng 4000 was dead as those don't just turn up very often 😒

Good luck with you build and more pictures pls. Is there a market that has any shops that sell parts? If there is start hunting for another S3 card like a Virge DX/GX (dos support) and a Voodoo 1 for 3D Glide support. Beyond that you did good.

On a far away planet reading your posts in the year 10,191.

I'm going to clean the contacts and have another shot. There used to be two shops in town that sold older parts, but they closed down about 10 years ago 🙁

My next hurdle is getting Windows to detect the mouse, have tried 2 different mice on 2 headers and both COM ports, doesn't wanna play.

Currently running this card, wonder what JP2 does.

Got the Tseng4000 running. I've tried everything to get the COM ports going, no luck 🙁
Here's what it's looking like at the moment. Will get it looking like new once everything is working.

Whereabouts in SA are you? I'm in Roodepoort and currently moving my office to my house. I have a ton of cards and boards, so let me know if you're looking for anything in particular and we can make a plan. Got a few PCI S3 Virge boards and a couple of PCI ET6000 boards as well as a couple of Voodoo2 cards, ISA soundcards, ethernet cards etc. I'd rather give them to someone who's gonna use them rather than recycle them. I have a 430TX Pentium 133 system I rescued from being dumped if you don't come right with your COM/Mouse ports.

Also have some P3 boards and processors and plenty P4 systems.

Awesome. I'm in Cape Town but can make a plan to get the stuff down here. What would you want for it?

Haha thanks. I inherited some from the previous owner, but will be adding any interesting new ones I find.

Really not looking to make much off it, R20 a card + postage? R150 for the 430TX board and processor, let me know what you want. I'll test everything before shipping just to be sure.

At the moment, a decent display card, 2 - 4MB, and a PS/2 connection. Probably a few other things later on.

Took the MB out last night, cleaning everything out. I see it's a GA-586ATV.

Cool, I have a 4MB S3Virge or a 2MB ET6000, a PS/2 mouse adapter and you'll more than likely want an ISA soundcard of sorts, I have a Crystal card or an AWE64 Value. I might have a Yamaha YMF718 lying around somewhere if you need genuine OPL3 synthesis. You'll probably want a network card, I have a 3Com 3C905C if you need.
