I'm looking a suitable Sound Blaster 16 for my 286 system. It has to have a normal IDE interface for a CD-ROM. Couldn't get one to work with a normal IDE controller and I don't feel like sticking an AWE32 inside a 286...

Any recommendations?

My recommendation is to look for a SB16 with IDE and jumper configuration. Good luck. 😊

Just got one in the mail but since it seems to be working with my old Sound Blaster Pro, and the CDROM works, I'll probably keep it as is...

How did you get the CD-ROM working with the SB Pro? Are you using a creative branded drive?
