I'm trying to increase refresh rates in VESA DOS games. I'm using the VBEHz TSR for this. It's supposed to work on any VBE 3.0 compatible card (I'm running a Voodoo5) and the author also claims that the tool works when run under Windows 98 as well, which is what I am using.

My problem is that it doesn't work when run under Windows, the games just play at 60 Hz as usual. It doesn't seem to matter whether I leave the DOS window open or not. The only way I can get it to work is by rebooting to DOS, running the tool, and running Windows again. That way it seems to stay in memory and I get 800x600@125 Hz as expected. But this solution is a bit cumbersome and I'd rather run it directly from Windows...

Ok, running under Windows doesn't work, but can you perhaps load it during boot? Or would that require you to load EMM386, which you do not desire?

Great idea about putting it in autoexec.bat! For some reason that seems to do the trick. Loading EMM386 wasn't necessary, don't see why either tbh since there is no mention of it in the documentation.

Thanks! 😀
