Hello friends, lately I've been thinking of building a 440BX Tualatin system, however, looking around the house I found something I had bought some time ago.
It's an IWILL KK266-R motherboard with a Palomino 1700+! This board is based on the popular Via KT133A and as far as I can tell, all of the capacitors seem to be in top quality. I believe these are Hermei capacitors, are they any good or should I be worrying?
The idea is that this system could be a fun distraction to play around with and would make a Tualatin 440BX system kinda redundand. So, I'm thinking of building the system like this:
Athlon XP 1700+ (Palomino)
KK266-R
512MB SDRAM
GeForce FX 5700 AGP
Vortex 2 or SB Live!
So a few points that I need some help with:
a) I've got a Thermalright SLK-800 CPU Cooler. Is that good enough for this CPU?
b) I don't expect to be installing any Voodoo cards in this machine, but if I do install a couple of Voodoo 2 cards, what should I note? I remember some weird Athlon drivers, but not much else...
c) Should I install any 3in1 Service Packs? Generally, what drivers should I install for this motherboard and GPU?
d) Are those Hermei capacitors trustworthy? They look to be in tip top shape, but should I upload a photo just in case?
e) What kind of PSU should I use for such a system? I know that Athlons like the 5V rail, how many Amps should I need for such a CPU? I'm not going to overclock it at all.
That's all, thanks for reading! 😀
