I have been busy on my 486 build ( build story i will add later)
So far my 486 DX2 80 mhz is running great, running ms-dos 6.22..
Before i can do more here i need to get install one of those proprietary Creative cd-rom drives..
For this all iam using an Creative SB AWE 32 CT3900. It have a proprietary panasonic / creative interface and the IDE interface..
For now i have installed the soundcard and that one working fine, tested with non-amplified headphone plugs cheap model.
But the CD-ROM part is just the biggest trouble. For the planned IDE drive i have here a creative CD-220E drive MPC2 creative drive thats IDE (i dont know if its the same IDE as normal IDE, or a specific IDE from creative them self.)
The other drive i wanted to use it in my 386 build.. The drives or not tested, so its not sure it would work.. Only the CD-220E drive will play audio cds on the fly..
The proprietary drive i have here is called: CR-563-B and it also from creative and is 2 speed.
When i installed the AWE32 soundcard there was some point to mentioned, under the settings (in installation setup) if there was a cd-rom installed through the soundcard it didnt showed automatically the IDE CD-220E one
It seems only some older drives seems to be supported by default driver. Iam not going to mentioned them all here, but my other drive CD-563-B was also there in that list... Because it should be compatible i tried that drive.. (before that i had putting my system out offcourse) So i swapped the cable from the IDE to the panasonic one.. I alligned the red strip with pin 1 on the soundcard, and put the other side (red line) to pin 1 of the drive..
But iam not really sure which requirements the IDE / or proprietary cable has to have?? Is it possible to use a normal standard cable for that?
Does the cable may only have two connectors on that cable?? Iam not sure if a third connector make the cable incompatible when it is in the middle of the cable.
But to go further with the last story.. The soundcard installation setup have installed a driver for the cd-rom drive.. When its rebooting my system.. The CD driver shows up (iam using MSCDEX.EXE for the DOS DIR)
Its trying to assign the drive. BUT
SBCD001 saying: SBCD001: Interface board or CD-ROM drive is nor ready..
The weird thing is, when i run diagnose.exe i never see any options in these drivers to see which port is assigned to the CD-ROM port.. And i also didnt see any options to configure the right port and so on?
Can somebody tell me how to go further on this? My guess is that there is a seperate set available to do the configure cd-rom part am i right??
Iam also like to know how to get the IDE part running on this soundcard.
Does anybody have the settings for my CR-563-B drive with (ID setting)
~ At least it can do black and white~
