Sound Blaster 1.0 worthwhile?

I can get my hands on a possibly mint condition Sound Blaster 1.0 (card only) about $10.
The thing is, for me it would be more of a novelty, as I have no real use for it. Ideally
would have wanted an SB Pro since it's stereo.

Do you guys think it's worth it?

I tend to rely more heavily on the SB16/AWE64's and the likes for most DOS games.

Is it quite a sought after card? By your suggestion I'm thinking $10 is a good price.

I think that's a good price for a person who wants to use it, but not for someone who plans on reselling it. If you buy it for ten bucks, plan on using it as a trade item as vetz suggested.

Reselling wouldn't be the plan, no. Just trying to figure out what the benefit (if any) of owning one would be.
Don't know who I would trade with.

isn't this card one of the better if not best choice if you want a sound card in a 8088 based machine? its 8 bit isa, does adlib and its pretty easy/cheap to add the CMS compatibility unlike the 1.5 card. Its what I use in my NEC V20 rig.

BUY IT!! Much more rare then all of the 1.5s floating around with and without CMS chips.

$10...Are you kidding me?? Buy it for sure! That is ridiculously cheap for a SB 1.0! I agree with soviet conscript....use it in an old XT system if you can. Every time I see one on eBay they go for at least $50 and more. And you can resell it for a lot more than $10.

Incredibly cheap. Buy it ASAP. Latest SB 1.5 went for $127 at ebay (proof), while SB 1.0 is even more rare and valuable.

At $10, it's not a bargain. It's a jackpot.

However, the "jackpot" is only for it's historical value and as a vintage collector's item. Nothing else.

The on-board CMS chips are a definite plus, but it's more like a hit or miss addition, that never took off. Later games still maintained Adlib support while dropping CMS functionality. Not many games supported them, and most of those games that did support CMS, also supported higher end MT-32 music, which made CMS redundant to those who also owned the MT-32.

CMS-compatible chips can be bought separately and added onto later supported SB cards, but the chips are not that easy to find either.

As an investment, it's a good price, since it can definitely be sold back for at least 10x this price later in eBay. There will be a resurfacing of vintage-craze wave again.

Okay, so I got it today. It turned out to actually be a Sound Blaster 1.5 CT-1320C in fair condition. I ended up getting it for $7 though.
Popped it into a PC to test and it works great. Trimpot seems a little temperamental but as long as you leave it in one place it's fine.
Will post pics a little later today.

Edit: Forgot to mention, although it's an SB1.5 it is equipped with the CMS chips.

Nicely done! Amazing deal, especially if it came with CMS chips. Pictures?

Additionally, a SB 1.0 would almost certainly have a socketed DSP v1.xx chip.

Yes, I did mention in an earlier post (6 posts up) that it turned out to be a 1.5 with CMS upgrade as indicated by the CT-1320C product code. It also seems to be a DSP v2.00 chip onboard.
Is DSP v2.00 good or bad? 😕
