That 3DO collector obviously has an obsessive-compulsive disorder.(Obsessive Compulsive disorder takes many forms). Many don't realise it. Multiple, multiple copies of both the same types of hardware and software. (And also notice how he takes the photographs placing the items eccentrically against the corners.) Even those who say that that was an "accomplishment" or was "amazing" (as seen on that forum) won't do such hoarding themselves.

If he does have OCD, at least it is of an organized variety. He put his copies in order on shelves, not strewn about on the floor. He hasn't stacked his loose 3D0 systems on top of each other ten high, which is a recipe for breaking the bottom eight. It also looks like he may actually use them too. There is nothing to suggest he is suffering from clutter that is impairing his living ability.

I wonder how many copies of "Plumbers Don't Wear Ties" does he have?

Well, that unruly stacking is more of the "Compulsive Hoarding" sub-category. OCD people tend to do things neatly, though I admit not all, but they tend to be tidier.

Before I derail this topic further, let me change the topic.

I started browsing the Mobygames looking at all the 3DO titles. I just tried playing Super Wing Commander using 4DO. 😁

Hmmm...this topic already derailed long back, I guess... 🤣

It was indeed derailed by the 3DO Blaster pic. No matter though, I got the answers I was looking for. Having said that, I never did manage to get this SB1.5 card working in DOS with a Pentium 3 550MHz 440BX. Are there any special drivers I should use?

It works ok in Windows 98 with Duke 3D and Death Rally Shareware, but I get errors if I try and load SBFMDRV, INST-DRV, PLAYCMF, TEST-SBC or anything else related to the drivers from Vogonsdrivers. Is it because the PC is too fast? The error seems to relate to a conflicting DMA (Error 400), but since it's the DSP V2.00 version with Auto-Init DMA, there's nothing I can do about it.

My Retro Gaming PC:
Pentium III 450MHz Katmai Slot 1
Transcend 256MB PC133
Gigabyte GA-6BXC
MSI Geforce 2 MX400 AGP
Ensoniq ES1371 PCI
Sound Blaster AWE64 ISA

What if you try a game with soundblaster support in DOS? The card should work without any drivers in DOS

Didn't anyone here at Vogons own a Sound Blaster 1.0 prototype card?

If I run a game in DOS, it seems to work fine, but I wanted to test PLAYCMF, but apparently it won't work without SBFMDRV.

It's normal behaviour, PLAYCMF do rely on SBFMDRV.

Here you can get fantastic wallpapers created by a friend of mine: patreon.com/Unpocodrillo

Try a 8086 / 80286 / 80386 ISA only MOBO.

Don't have one. 😢
I rely almost entirely on 440 Series Chipsets for my retro gaming. The reason is that they can be slowed down to
roughly the speed of a 100MHz 486-DX4 with minimal effort. Sort of an All-In-One solution.

440 chipsets should work. I've used my SB 1.5 in a few 440 based motherboards.

Maybe it's something to do with interference with other components, including other co-habiting cards, memory, BIOS resources reservation, etc.

Try booting from a minimal floppy floppy disk or bypass the config.sys and autoexec.bat processing and load the sbfmdrv and see. But make sure to execute the SET BLASTER command to set the environment variable, either in the clean boot floppy's autoexec.bat file or manually at the command prompt if autoexec.bat is bypassed, before loading the sbfmdrv.

Best tested if there are no other cards around, except the graphics card. Or try changing the graphics card and repeat the above process. Crazy things do happen.

Also, if still nothing else worked, it'll be helpful to list all the hardware components, including the motherboard model and the contents of the config and autoexec files.

Ebay allows searching for stuff that was sold successfully. Just look there and see what people are willing to pay for it.
