Just got NHL '97 yesterday (lost my old one, found one on amazon) and I cannot get it to work with 0.74, even though Dosbox says it's supported.

I can get to the setup screen, but as soon as I select my soundcard (auto-detect goes to SB 16) and hit the checkmark to proceed the game basically freezes and goes no further. The sound DOES work when I hit "sound test" prior to proceeding with the install.

This person sounds like he had a similar problem ("solution" reply was useless, as that's dosbox's default sound setup basically I think): http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=13342

I'm running a Win7 machine, if that helps (probably doesn't).

Cannot update if I cannot install in the first place.

No sound does not work, either.

Try low number of cycles during installation. The manual explains the cycles parameter in dosbox.conf. If that doesn't work, you could test with Ykhwong's build.

Judging by DOSBox's title bar in your screenshot, the install program has terminated back to DOS. I can reproduce that exact behavior in NHL 97's installer by not mounting a C: drive to install to. Not a very graceful way for the installer to handle the situation, but on the other hand it would be highly unusual on a real DOS PC.

So, make sure you're mounting a C: drive. If you need help with that then try following the "60 seconds guide" in the guides section of the forum.

THAT'S IT

Working now. Thanks. Can't believe I forgot that, so worried about mounting the cd drive I forgot c:\.
