Hi,
as far as I am aware, UIDE.SYS is kind of a big deal and a very appreciated part of FreeDOS. In all these years it's been around, has it really never occured to anyone that it just... doesn't work sometimes? I have made some tests with elianda and on the 5 systems we tested, it only worked on one.
The scenario is the following: It's a bootable CD which launches DOSLFN and a program written with DJGPP. on many systems, the presence of UIDE.SYS, UDVD2.SYS, XDMA.SYS or XCDROM.SYS will make this hang or crash or do other silly things. On an AMD Irongate based system, the driver caused garbage when copying files.
The platform I have running at the moment is a Chaintech 6ATA2 (slot 1 board with VIA chipset)... The problem here is, DOS will throw a general failure reading drive (whatever):. And that is regardless of whether I'm using SHSUCDX or MSCDEX...
Does anyone have any advice or perhaps an alternative driver we could try? I would like to get UDMA support going here 😉
DEVICE=XMGR.SYSDEVICE=UIDE.SYS /S25 /D:OERGCD01FILES=30BUFFERS=20LASTDRIVE=Z
SHSUCDX /D:OERGCD01 /L:ZZ:DOSLFN /C+INSTALL.EXE
Cheers
