Exile 3 won't work: What am I doing wrong?

Downloaded Dosbox 0.74 for windows. Used the guide provided on this site as well as http://joshmccarty.com/2013/08/run-windows-3-1-in-dosbox/ to install windows 3.1 and the proper soundcard (though not the video card though I believe that is only if you want improved graphic options).

Rebooted, started up Dosbox, type win to start up windows 3.1 Everything is fine, Access the file manager, select the exile3 .exe install file and...

Error #20

Could not start the setup.

So frustrating!!

Any ideas?

The Exile 3 installer is working for me with no problems. Try following the Windows 3 guide in the DOSBox Guides section of the forum. I suggest using the video driver mentioned in the guide, 640x480 with 256 colors, small fonts.

Also, I suggest getting the game installer (EXL3INST.EXE) directly from the developer:

I deleted everything and tried from scratch. It works now!

But the screen is so small i can't really see much of anything...

Is there a way to make it bigger?

scaler=normal2x forced

or

scaler=normal3x forced (even bigger)
