I've seen references throughout the interwebs about BEDO over the years but never any actual existence of BEDO modules. Most sources seem to say that BEDO was trumped by SDRAM and so never really caught on - but were any modules produced? Do they provide a performance boost over EDO?

No idea, but I would think if anyone made some it ended up in a video card since no motherboards supported it.

@Unknown_K - that's the thing - Tyan actually listed support on some of their Pentium Pro motherboards. (The i82440FX chipset documentation also references it). I'm not sure if Tyan had tested it or if it was a misprint.

The niche of systems for it would be small, but these types of things are the ones that you wonder about. 😉

There is a big difference between supporting something and making good use of it. EDO RAM works in quite a few systems but gets used as FPM. Then you have early systems that were very picky about implementation (not liking quite a bit of SDRAM DIMMS).

The 440FX also supports USB but my PR440FX Intel board doesn't really implement it 100% correctly.

There were a few 430VX boards that were similarly sketchy for USB. Many of them had non-standard headers where things went BOOM even when they were properly wired. The PIIX3 south bridge might have even been USB 1.0 compliant as opposed to USB 1.1.
