VOGONS

Way back in the day ('97 or '98), I remember playing a monster truck game. It may have been called Monster Truck Rally, but I'm not sure. It definitely wasn't Monster Truck Madness.

I was only 4 or 5 at the time, so I don't remember too much about it. However, I remember that I got to drive a monster truck around, and if I drove too far from the track, the terrain would grow up around the truck and box me in. It was very odd.

ID'ing this game has proven to be very difficult. Google has been completely unhelpful. There are some details which might be of interest to the Vogons crowd, though:

I don't remember ever seeing a box or CD for the game, so it was probably a demo that came bundled with a video card. (No idea what card it was.)

The game stopped working when we got a new video card, so it may have used Glide or another proprietary API.

I will be flabbergasted if someone can positively identify this game based on the information provided.

I can.

The demo you're talking about came with the Matrox Mystique video card and it used MSI, Matrox's proprietary API. The full retail release did not support the Mystique, and it was also known as Thunder Truck Rally.

The demo is available for download in my 3D Accelerated Games List (Proprietary APIs - No 3DFX/Direct3D) thread. Just scroll down to Monster Truck Rally under Matrox Mystique.

Now if only I could get it to run. I'd hoped it might work on my G400... no such luck. Oh well. Still super cool.
