Hello, i am trying to run Counter Action by copying the files from the original CD and placing in my C drive. I can install the game and start it, but after pressing the Start Game and choosing a faction ( Russians or Germans) i get this error: Error executing overlay #1. C:\>
Can anyone help me out with this?

well, the game keeps track where you installed it from so you will need to put and mount the files to that path. AFAIK the install location is coded into the file "game.cfg"

If a simple subst command is not enough, you can try fakecd or fakedr as this game does not have CD Audio tracks. Again, mind the drive letter...

Assuming that we are talking about a pure DOS install>
I have just checked the method below, works for me with the 1997 UK Mindscape version of the game. The CDROM drive letter is not important.

1. Choose full install type.

2. When the installer finished copying files and sound setup is ready, copy over the following stuff from the CDROM to the installed game path, overwriting the files already there:

DATA dir
DRIVERS dir
installed language dir (for me it was ENGLISH)
language.lst file

3. run infocd -with the CD in the drive- to generate fakecd.dat file:

infocd [GAME DIRECTORY on HDD] [drive letter of physical CDROM source]

In my case it was:

infocd c:\dosgames\counter F

4. enter your game dir on the HDD and run fakecd to emulate the CDROM. My line was:

fakecd . /L:F

5. run start.exe
