Ok, pulling my hair out now, I thought I had it solved.
Thanks to the library and a thumb drive, most of my disks are nicely imaged so I can install them in DOSBox. OK, mainly so I have an image for when the floppies finally give up the ghost. But I do like building configs for DOSBox. I keep intending to invest in my own USB floppy drive, though if I get my ISA system up an running - with working USB - it has 2 working floppies for me to use to make images with.
This game, though, is just being too picky. Usually I pretty much copy/paste a loading batch file into the bottom part of the config file. Then I run DOSBox with a special shortcut that points to the specific config file... Up pops the copy protection... Look it up in the manual, type it in, it says "positive control" (I passed the protection test.) Then it says "Disk label does not correspond". Ok, close down, mount the floppy image as a: and try again.... Same thing....
After a lot of searches and attempted fixes, including hex editing the file to "crack" the protection (that didn't help btw - just in case you were curious.) I, at one point ran the batch file it places in the root directory.... It loaded.. YAY. So, I copy THAT batch file into the directory (I typed it out and it changes to \ARMAETH so it should work in the directory as well as out of it.) run it again from within the directory and it worked again. OK, somehow it know when I'm running the batch file or running the game directly... So I rewrite the config to use the batch file. Only, it didn't work again. Comment out that line (and the exit line,) and try again. Get into DOSBox, and type ARMAETH - doesn't work from root or from inside the ARMAETH directory.
I literally have absolutely no idea how I got it working before (that one time.) The floppy wasn't mounted, I didn't change anything (except the autoexec lines, and I changed them back.) I just cannot figure out what's up. I slowed it down (to 1000 cycles.) I sped it up (to 100000 cycles - it doesn't bog down till 150000.) I've used normal, dynamic, & simple core. I've tried it with all the cputypes. I've used my personal build, the latest SVN build, and 0.74 download. I'm running out of things I can think of to try.
Any help at all would be appreciated. Thank you.
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit
i3 Quad Core 3.4Ghz
Sound Blaster X-Fi
16GB RAM
Current config file attached...
