Hi Im sure it's been asked a thousand times but I'm just not getting it. Can someone please post a step by step guide for installing the 6 disc folder download for lSL6? I know theres a mounting trick you have to do but I'm not sure how to do it. Thanks in advance. IF it matters... Typically I mount c c:\users then c:\ then cd\myname\desktop\etc because my pc has different users name prior to the other drives ok thats all I know thanks...😀

LSL6 is not freeware. Please don't ask about downloading games.

There used to be a Sierra Help page, run by fans, that had instructions and patches for most Sierra Games, to get them working on newer hardware. I don't think they had modern installers like Grim Fandango did, though.

If you're using an abandonware or torrent release, follow their instructions, or you're SOL.

Just buy the game on GOG.com. It has everything set up for you.

Yeah, but then you're subject to the gawd-awful voice acting (makes KQ7 look good in comparison), and that insipid "Girl in the Tower" ballad that , IIRC, Sierra actually paid radio stations to give it airplay.

The floppy disk version is the best.

OMG, I just noticed your sig. *atomic facepalm* Sorry about preaching to the choir. I've used y'all work many a time, especially the LSL6 bug fixes.

Sorry again! *bows head in shame*

How do I get the GENMIDI "4.PAT" to work with LSL5, et al? I get this error message in ScummVM:

r4sbr76.png

I tried posting there, but got flagged as spam, and threatened with a ban?

Anyway , I followed the directions, and still get that error. I found the GENMIDI util on sierrahelp via google. Is there a newer utililty I need?

I got the MT32 Util as well, but I'm saving that for DosBOX, since I got the standalone Munt driver for it.

Girl in the Tower is insipid, but I rate the voice acting as well done, as it was done by professional voice actors, not Sierra employees. Fortunately, you can turn off the voice acting in the options panel.

I haven't tried it with ScummVM, but with DOS you would simply rename the included "LL5_GM.PAT" to 4.PAT and place it in the installed game's folder. Don't bother with any of the other *.PAT files. For DOSBox you would also need to copy the GM.DRV and edit the RESOURCE.CFG to soundDrv=GM.DRV. This works great in DOSBox. Of course the SHP installer sets the game to use GM music automatically.

If renaming "LL5_GM.PAT" to 4.PAT in the game's folder does not work with ScummVM, you will need to ask the ScummVM team.

I got it working. My original download must've been corrupted. I think the same thing happened with CrisisGeneralMidi.

One a side note, every sierra game that supports GM/GS work like a charm in SCummVM, and sound better than ever using BASSMIDI with SGM (alhough I need to learn how to do stackable soundfonts. a few intruments are wonky in certain games)

The games that used MT-32/CM-32L work great with the standalone Munt with DosBOX.0.7.4, and sound AMAZING. It's exactly what I imagined when I would daydream of buying one of the Rolands in the Sierra Catalog.

Just as an added note.. I did not torrent this I found the download while searching "sierra abandonware" and that's how I found it. I have purchased this game in the past (in the box). It looks like if I want to play it again without my old discs I have to purchase to download it again, it doesn't work with dosbox or scummvm without doing some mounting trick and I'm just not savvy enough to get it exactly right.
