I've tried to install Strike Commander off the floppy images, but the install program insists I only have ~438K free. When I run 'mem' on DosBOX, it says I have 633KB free. What's the story behind that?

A bit of Googling suggests you will need to disable EMS. (I think typing EMS=FALSE will work; if it doesn't, you will need to change the ems=true line in your DOSBox.conf.)

Loadfix might also be worth a try, but no one has mentioned that before. (Just type loadfix before trying to start the installer.)

I tried that, but it was a no go. I read in a different thread that it was an issue installing from floppy images. I'll see if I can borrow a buddies CD-ROM, and trying installing it that way.

It seems unlikely that it should be completely impossible to install from the floppy version. I see now that this problem has come up before (see as in DOS BOX not enough memory and http://www.dosbox.com/comp_list.php?showID=548&letter=S ) but that no solution was identified.

ftp://ftp.ea.com/pub/origin/patches/strike_cmdr/scto1hlp.txt suggests that running "install -A" might make a difference, but that is of course a file relating to the expansion pack.

I'll give that a try later this evening. I've got the expansion and speech packs, so it's worth a try.

Thanks, mate! 😁

...Also, this should be in the DOSBox subforum, not the DOS forum.

Someone will probably move it shortly.

"install - a" did the trick! Thank you very much! Now, if I can just figure out how to use my 360pad for a joystick, instead of tracking down a used one (not paying for a HOTAS setup, cool though they are).
