Alright, I'm sorry to do this again, but I'm having trouble running Lost Eden... again.
The weird thing is, it's happening on BOTH of my copies of the game (I had one a friend gave my dad, who gave it to me and another one I found at a dollar store, in better condition).
No matter what I do, I keep getting this weird error about "Dune$$$.$$$"
(on a side note, is .$$$ even a file extension?!)
Basically, this is what I do:
Z:\>mount D D:\ -t cdrom
MSCDEX installed
Drive D is mounted as CDRom D:\
then I go to the INSTALL.exe or INSTDOS.exe or EDEN.exe (doesn't matter which one, happens no matter what I choose)
Then I go to that cool looking install screen with the dinosaur
>Previously stored configuration has not been found on drive C:
(I checked, there isn't)
"I want to start a new installation
or
"Eden.Bat is stored on another drive"
okay, so I want to start a new installation. Seems simple.
I'm then given the option to either do an auto or manual installation, I choose manual.
The next textbox appears
>EDEN only needs a very small area on your hard disk to save configuration and game situations (about 50k). Configuration and saved games will be stored on the following directory
(make changes if necessary)
At this point, it shows me C:\EDEN\, no matter if I change the directory to my C, E or external hard drive, this ALWAYS happens.
>Not enough room on Drive A: Free disk space = 2500 Kb
Required: 2500 Kb
Do you want to try anyway?
um, okay, this is where I start to get confused:
1. I NEVER CHOOSE DRIVE A, why does it act like I'm putting these files on this drive? I think this might have to do with the fact that I had my laptop repaired a while ago, my hard drive fried, but I didn't call a drive A: so why is it there?
2. Not enough space? I know I have more than enough space to run this. Even when I use
"-freespace 100" it tells me that I don't have enough space.
I don't get it.
I hit "ok", so that it will try anyway and I get this error:
Error while creating file:
C:\dune$$$$.$$$
(I puushed a screenshot of it, here http://puu.sh/adlWa/e7c0ac81db.png)
I feel like there's something I'm doing wrong from the start, every other forum post I've read has shown that people really don't have a problem running Lost Eden on Dosbox, with sound, music and everything.
I can get it to run.... but no sound or music (Edenprg.exe works).
I probably look like an idiot here, but even after following Dominus' awesome 60 second guide, the game gives me this error. It worked the first time, but not now.
I would really appreciate help with this. After I get this running, I plan on making a shortcut on my desktop to just run lost eden from the CD (make a shortcut with dosbox with the correct path, ect), so I'll never have to darken your doorsteps again with this inane question...
Maybe the copies I have don't work anymore? I can see the files and they have worked on this computer(Windows 7 home premium laptop) and it works fine on the older family computer (a windows XP) when using it in DOS. (I actually beat the game, I think, 5 times in a row once on that computer.... damn I love this game).
I uploaded a picture of my copies of the game, just curious if anyone else have used these copies in Dosbox with any success.
I hope I provided enough information.
