Hey guys,

I had read and installed "Silent Hunter Commanders Edition" According to the step by step instructions by Don Wells at website www.geocites.com/battlebelow/shswinxp.htm, and it works great. But theres one big problem. I can't get any sound to come out. I'm guessing that in the step by step instruction, I had to change the dig.ini file, but there is no dig.ini file for the Commanders Edition. Also, everything that was stated to change seemed to be for people that have a SoundBlaster, which I don't have. I have a Santa Cruz Turtle Beach Soundcard that came with the computer that I have. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get sound for the Silent Hunter Commanders Edition?

System
4500 Dell Deminsion Desktop
80 GB HD
512 megs RAM
NVidia Gforce4 Video card w/ TV output
Santa Cruz Turtle Beach Soundcard
17" flat screen Monitor
Dell Series Keyboard
Logitech Trackman mouse

Thanks

The beauty of VDM Sound is that it does not care what type of sound card you have installed. It provides a 'virtual' SoundBlaster (et. al) for the DOS game in question, Silent Hunter Commander's Edition. The instruction that I wrote have a DIG.INI file and MDI.INI file listings included in the instructions. All you have to do is use a text editor and create both the DIG.INI and MDI.INI file;

DIG.INI file contents:
;Miles Design Audio Interface Library V3.03 of 18-Jun-95
;

DEVICE Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 or AWE32
DRIVER SB16.DIG
IO_ADDR 220h;
IRQ 7
DMA_8_BIT 1
DMA_16_BIT 5

MDI.INI file contents:
;
;Miles Design Audio Interface Library V3.03 of 18-Jun-95
;

DEVICE Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 or AWE32
DRIVER SB16.MDI
IO_ADDR 220h
IRQ 7
DMA_8_BIT 1
DMA_16_BIT 5

You need BOTH of the files as listed above for the SHCE to work. Remember, it does NOT matter that you have a Turtle Beach soundcard, what is important is that Silent Hunter Commander's Edition THINKS that it is dealing with a SoundBlaster-16 which is what VDM Sound has 'virtually' provided to the Windows XP/Windows 2000/Windows NT Dos emulation.

So repeat after me: As far as Silent Hunter Commander's Edition is concerned, you DO have a Creative SoundBlaster 16...

Best of luck,

Don V Wells, Jr.

I got Silent Hunter 1 to work using the same instructions and it run fine graphically and I DO get sound but it breaks up real bad.

Anyone know why the sound might be garbled 50% of the time?

..thanks
