I have an ASUS P3B-F, v1.03. Its PLL is an ICS-9250CF-08. The only two Windows programs I know of to set the front side bus are SoftFSB and CPUFSB. SoftFSB's last version is 1.7final, and CPUFSB's last Windows 9x version is 2.2.18.

Unfortunately, despite explicit support for the ICS-9250xx-08 PLL, SoftFSB will not set the FSB for my motherboard, the ASUS P3B-F. I believe that it does something slightly differently and the program's author never updated it to work with this motherboard. Newsgroup posters from back in the day could never figure out how it could work with the P3B-F either. SoftFSB has explicit support for the ASUS P2B-F, both old and new versions, presumably it will work with them. CPUFSB has explicit support for the ASUS P3B and many newer motherboard, works on my P3B-F, however it is only available in a shareware version, has a nag screen and will not save settings.

One of the few differences between the P2B-F and P3B-F is that the former is designed to set the multiplier only via jumpers, while the latter can do so in the BIOS. However, for on the fly changes, it is far easier to use a program in Windows than to restart the machine, change the FSB setting in the BIOS, and then reboot the machine to obtain the desired speed.

One other issue with CPUFSB, it would fail to load, crashing with an error, once I upgraded to IE 6.0. I had to downgrade to get it working again. I will try installing IE 6 again without the optional components, that may work.

Have you tried CPUCool v8.0.6 ? That version can be registered and made nag-free.

I tried a later version of CPUCool (of which CPUFSB is a part), and it refused to install on Win9x, requiring Win 2K or XP.
