I was trying PCI ethernet cards in my 486 board (Acer AP43)
and I thought I was pulling out the ISA NIC but actually ended up pulling out my SB Vibra16

After I was done testing I put everything back to the way it was but now the sound doesn't work.

Device manager in Windows 2000 says Error code 10 the device cannot start
Windows 98 says This device is ether not present, not working properly or does not have all the drivers installed. (Code 24)

Resource conflict is my first guess. Try the Reset ESCD option in your BIOS settings.

I got it working. After reseating it a second time it worked
So it much have been a contact problem in the ISA slot
