First, let me introduce myself, my name is Bruno, I'm from Lima, Peru. This is my first time posting, but I have been a casual reader of this forum. (BTW, please excuse my english, it's not my native language). Can you please tell me which is the best sound card for DOS games? These are my system specs:
Case: Compaq Deskro EN Small Form Factor
Processor: Pentium III 1.0 Ghz
Motherboard: Custom Compaq Motherboard (Intel 815-based)
RAM: 512 MB 133 Mhz
Video: NVIDIA TNT2 16 MB (Integrated on Motherboard)
Audio: Intel AC97 Controller + Analog Devices AD1885 Codec 😵
Hard Disk: Samsung IDE 40 GB, 7200 RPM (I don't recall the model)
CD/DVD Drive: LG GH22NS50
3 PCI Slots (All of them unused)
I have installed Windows 98 and Windows Me trying to get the sound working in a DOS command prompt, but the Sound Blaster emulation is crappy (For example, Tyrian 2000 doesn't detect any Sound Blaster, just detects a MIDI interface. Prince of Persia 1 and 2 hangs if i select sound blaster in the setup program. For any game needing FM Synthesis, there is no sound. So, basically, I just have a MIDI interface emulated with Microsoft/Roland GS Software Synthesizer, whic is part of DirectX. Trying runnning those games under pure DOS is impossible, there is not any driver for intel AC97 controller. I have not ISA slots, the only thing I can do by now is using the PC Speaker. 😢
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much!
Bruno
