i was using voodoo1 + matrox g400 combo, win and dos glide games worked ok. OS is win95(mb is epox bx6, celeron 800, 256mb, sb live, awe32)
then i replaced V1 card with voodoo2 sli cards. used same pci slot as V1 and one below. win glide games work ok with any drivers, but dos glide games dont work (gives me black screen). doesnt matter if i run them from windows or ms dos-mode. if i run same dos game without glide acceleration it works ok.
The only way i managed to run dos glide games is if i install june 99 reference drivers. then in dos mode they work fine, but if i run them from windows they work until i exit the game. if i run game again its black screen, voodoo2 control panel also stops working(its messed up, sli not detected). after reboot same story, game works until exit.
doesnt matter which dx is installed, tried with one card, clean windows install (win95 and 98), tried with fastvoodoo4.6, no difference.
exception is ef2000, with batch file works ok with any drivers, in win or dos mode.
what can be done?

IMHO, there is the old Voodoo1 glide2x.ovl somewhere in the %patch%.
Or you forgot to delete glide2x.ovl in the game directory (some DOS glide games install local version of glide2x.ovl (from Voodoo1/Rush)).
What games have you tested?

Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

This might not be related but I had issues with Matrox cards and V2. If I would access the Voodoo control panel the machine would basically hang.

But your issue sounds different. There is a thread "search for Voodoo 2 compatibility matrix" that shows how to get many games going with a V2.

#1 If the issue is related to the G400 I would try a different 2D card as a test to eliminate that theory (although I've had good luck with the G400).
#2 If you have another variety of voodoo2 to try?

Some games (and cards) require varying drivers.... for my voodoo2 stuff I found there isn't a single driver that works with all of my games. *sigh*

For the worst case scenario-- I would advise to create a batch script that can replace the system glide DLLs with any variant that is required for a specific game. I've been meaning to do that but haven't gotten around to it yet.

well, problem was cpu/pci clk ratio.
my fsb speed is set to 8x100=800mhz, that doesnt work.
voodoo cards work if i set to 8x66, 8x75, 8x83, that way cpu/pci ratio is 2:1, any different setting is 3:1 and voodoo doesnt work.
trying to get workaround, maybe some bios tweak any ideas? until then will have to settle CPU with 8x83.

Voodoo1 hates high frontside bus and high cpu clocks.

I have a few and none would run normally on a Tualatin 1400, not even at half the speed (10,5 x 66mhz). They all work fine in slower systems and are different brands.

Voodoo2 never had a problem in any system. I don`t overclock my retro stuff.

asus tx97-e, 233mmx, voodoo1, s3 virge ,sb16
asus p5a, k6-3+ @ 550mhz, voodoo2 12mb sli, gf2 gts, awe32

asus tusl2-c, p3-S 1,4ghz, voodoo5 5500, live!

overclock is not the problem, like i said its cpu pci ratio. it has to be 2:1 or else wont work in my system. I read that someone else had same problem and cpu was not overclocked, then he chaned mobo and it worked fine at same cpu speed.
also had voodoo1 and work perfectly fine though.
also, tried cards in other pc(P4 3.2ghz, asus P4c mobo, 1gb ram, win98se) system was not overclocked, same problems. would help if downclocked, didnt bother.

Ok, thanks for sharing. Even at 2:1 my voodoo1 cards (and rush) wouldn`t work in my asus tusl2-c.
Voodoo2, Voodoo3 pci and voodoo5 pci worked fine. In every other retro box (slower) all cards work so i guess some combinations of chipsets, fsb and cpu speed can conflict with v1 and v2?

My banshee also didn`t work in this board and it is an agp card. In an Asus p3b-f it has no problems at all.... In Tusl2-c V1 gave lots of corruption (5 different cards!) and Banshee and rush didn`t display anything.

I will try again soon with a different p3 cpu and see how that goes...
