Help!
Im trying to run the CD version of King's Quest VI on Windows for workgroups 3.11 under DOSBOX 0.74.
The opening video and sound works great, but the game itself shows with black background, and only some of the real background shows, giving a "jigsaw look" to the game! 😢
When i move the character to the black background, it clears and shows the real background (similar to Fog Of War on strategy games).

i installed the S3 graphic card on windows version 1.70.04.
i am playing king’s quest VI CD version 1.000.00G.
i would be glad to give more details if necessary.

Most of the people complain about the intro video and sound for the game which works just great with me...
Please help!

The stuttering and tearing of the intro only happens with the DOS version of the game. It sounds like you have your color depth too high.

Out side of that, unless you really want to see if you can get it to work in Win3x in DOSBox, just use the new installer and save yourself the headaches. Check my sig.

Second option, feed ScummVM with your CD data.

Thank you collector and IIGS-User,

collector, i went to your website (which is a great resource that im sure i will use on other games), and i tried that patch for the KQ6 CD ver, and it didnt solve my problem. where exactly are the new installer there?
I do like to get the authentic experience, and continue with the series and enjoy the differences in later games...
How do i change the "color depth" in win 3.11, or is it my windows vista?

IIGS_User, if all fails, i guess i would move to ScummVM... (wow, Apple IIGs, i used to dream about it back when i had the Apple 2c 😀

Not any separate patches, but the new installer for the game. The new KQ6 installer will automatically setup both the DOS version in DOSBox, optimally configured and the Win version in ScummVM. The DOS version includes a graphics driver that does not skip and tear the intro. It will save you from having to fool around with Win3x in DOSBox. Just run the installer and point it to your CD.

It is also worth noting that it will rip the CD audio track of the end song that plays during the credits. If your copy is one of the collections that is missing this track, the installer can download the missing track for you.

wow collector, you did it!
i am taking off my adventurers hat in your honor! 😀
The installer runs the game perfectly, i just hope it will be like that all the way through...
Sierra doesnt tell us about the dangers and perils of the "installing the game adventure"...
i cant imagine how much time it took you to reach that installer version- that must be a quest worth telling 😀
taking me back to the days of installing a new game on a Pentium PC (days of Plug and Pray...)
Maybe you should add a section on your site where you tell the long way until reaching the solutions...
may i suggest also adding some menu on top or side of the site, with "patches and installers download" section.

Again thank you for your work!
