This may have been done before but I couldn't find it. Has anyone compiled a list of all major video card chipsets sorted by year? It would be useful to pick a year and immediately see what video cards were then current and which were becoming obsolete.

There was a big video card family tree on this forum, but I can't find it now.

I quickly put a list together for my own reference. I'll upload it here in case others find it useful. Though there are probably errors, particularly with the ATI cards, which have a confusing model history.

It's notable that the late 1990s were a time of rapid change and innovation in this field, with lots of different companies/chipsets competing for market share.

Ha, that's brilliant. I knew there had to be something like that around here somewhere.

Does a searchable version exist? Someone should OCR it and put it in a PDF.

Vlask made it with VUE (http://vue.tufts.edu/) right? Maybe you can ask him for the original file and search from the VUE program.

Also from wikipedia (as I thought vlask's chart should be there as well) I just found out about this interactive gallery: http://vgamuseum.ru/
Very nice! P.S. oh it's on vgamuseum.info link page as well.

Yes that's very well done. Kudos to whoever made it.
