Hi all, I've installed my 3dfx card into my Packard Bell and although it is working and windows installs drivers for it games don't seem to make use of it. It simply defaults to software. What am I doing wrong?

Also POD wants glide.dll but I don't have that and the voodoo drivers came with glide2x

Davros, if I'm not mistaken this is the A-Trend Helios 3D 4MB Voodoo Graphics from this thread: Need some help identifying these Graphics cards.

King_courduroy: you can get drivers from a variety of online sources, like 3dfxzone.it, falconfly.de, etc.

I have the drivers, but still the game I have tried is not detecting the 3dfx card. It's a Voodoo 1 so I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong here, it should be pretty simple right?

Also @davros I am seeing that Voodoo menu but mine says "3DFX Voodoo Graphics".

Also I should mention that my S3 Virge wasn't displaying anything above 16bit colours with the voodoo installed and was generally having a hissy fit but now I have the voodoo removed everything is back to the way it was before I did anything.

Also the 4MB Matrox card seemed to run like absolute crap with the voodoo installed. Could I be just running into classic Packard Bell compatibility issues here?

v1 drivers in case theres a conflict with the above (dont get one that says direct3d only)
http://www.falconfly.de/voodoo1.htm

ps: there is also a helios 3d that is a voodoo rush (you do have 2 connections at the back of the card) see pic if theres only 1 its a voodoo rush

I already have the Voodoo drivers installed Davros, also mine has 2 ports on the back typical of the old pass through voodoo cards.
Yes I'm running Windows 98 SE on a Packard Bell Platinum 55 from 1996, it has a Pentium 200MMX slot 7 CPU on board 2mb Virge S3, 80MB 72pin SIMM RAM. The soundcard is an ISA CT2800 Vibra 16S (With OPL) and it is also fitted with a PCI USB 5 port card.

My card:

Hey btw what are the power requirements for the Voodoo cards? Could I be running low on juice? The Packard's PSU is 204w max.

Just tried it now, it looks like it should work but my computer froze when the game started and the computer rebooted itself. 😒

Run SETUP and auto detect your Sound Card or select No Sound Card.

Looks like it works fine although something isn't quite right with the refresh or something. My desktop warbles a little.
So why the hell isn't Planet of Death making use of the voodoo? 😒

Also any idea where I can get a legit copy of the Glide.dll? It looks like I might be able to get the 3dfx version of pod to start if I can get that.

uninstall your driver. install directx 6. install the oldest diamond 3dfx driver (when asked for overwriting some files click yes).

after this you can install any driver you want.

i have had some trouble in the past and the oldest diamond drivers solved it.

Pod (not Pod Gold) is one of games with glide 2.1.1 API. It uses glide.dll and sst1init.dll, not glide2x.dll. And yes, these files aren't included on Pod cd.
Just update the game to Pod Gold with Voodoo/Rush patch, then play. If you have installed non-glide version (to avoid "no 3dfx problem") - just run the patch twice.
Vogons topic about glide 2.1.1 games is here.
You can get glide.dll, sst1init.dll and fxmemmap.vxd from old Voodoo card drivers (like Orchid Righteous 3d 1.00). Don't install these drivers or you will lose the glide2x.dll games support. Just expand these files and copy glide.dll and sst1init.dll to the %system% directory.
