Hello. I - shamefully - downloaded an illigitimate copy of said game for a review i was doing, so I'm possibly to blame when things don't work, but if you can help me, please do.

I downloaded VDMS and installed it after sound didn't work for the game. I installed VDMS and ran Sam and Max with it, with digital sound on and all i could get was music and sound effects, no voice-overs in-game. I know this isn't much information, but any help is of course appreciated. My system is below.

P4 2.5ghz
512mb RAM
Radeon 7500
AC97 on-board sound
Motherboard is PROSTAR i think, that's all i know.

Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure your illigitimate copy is the floppy version, so you will only have speech during the intro, but not during the game.

It is, come to think of it. Does that mean if I *cough* download the illigitimate version for the budget release *cough* it'll work ok?

I'm going to buy it soon...honest.

There was a budget release? Whaa?
Chances are, if the archive isn't >= about 500MB, it's the floppy version, unless the audio was compressed externally.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Yeah. Released with Day of the Tentacle on Lucas Arts' budget range.

Oh, you mean their collection packs? Like, the first one was Star Wars, the second was Adventure games... yeah, that's where I got all my copies (DOTT, Full Throttle, The Dig, Sam 'n' Max). Speaking of Sam and Max, LucasArts has confirmed that they're working on a sequel and that it will be released in 2004. I sure hope so. Maybe it'll get them to back off on ScummVM for a while. 😜

Yes, it’s my fault.

Yeah, a sequel has been confirmed. Though, call me nostalgic, I don't know how any new adventure games, even Lucas Arts sequels can better the originals like S&M and DOTT. I admire LA for trying though, as they could have been stuck in the "endless Star Wars cash-ins" for the rest of their days.

There's a download on the lucasarts website to run this game properly with sound AND on Windows XP.

Download ScummVM, it's designed to run old Lucasarts games.
