Hi,
I 've tested mx geforce2 Mx400 and, YES! i can to use it, it's a little slow but i can!
To use it i must to put IRQ to manual in the bios. 15 for my SCSI card and 9 for the geforce et i can to go to windows without infinite reboot or protection error.
Bye.

Sis85C 496 /497

I can use a GeForce 5500 PCI 128 mb DDR 64bit, but it's very slow, i don't know if it' a wrong driver or other (windows98se) ?

My 3dfx 3000 16mb PCI is more fast than all GeForce on my motherboard... 🤣

I have not yet tried my Geforce2 on a SiS 496/497-based motherboard. Could you provide more details to what aspect is faster with the Voodoo3 3000 over the GeForce2? What is your basis for making this comparison?

I found that the Geforce2 was only slow with text at low resolutions in DOS or in the BIOS at 320x200 or whatever resolution it is at by default. By comparing the Geforce2 with the Voodoo3 in GLQuake, I found the two graphic cards to perform equally as based on the frame rate.

What driver version are you using? What motherboard are you using?

My motherboard is:

MS4144 ver: 2.1

With:

POD 83mhz WB or WT in bios i don't know what is the fastest?
256kb
GeForce FX5500 PCI 128mb 64bit
Ram 100mb FPM 70ns (i can't use EDO)
SB32AWE 8mb
SCSI SCA 2x 2.1Gb
Eternet ISA 10mb

I use nvidia display driver 77,72 on windows98se, same driver on windows95c but i have a NVCPL.DLL error .

When i say slow, 3dmark99 lite is like a slide show, with 3dfx it 's more fast. And i can to play slowly with Quake3 with my 3dfx not with my GeForce (the game freeze on Quake3 system menu)

Hi,
I can't do nothing!

OpenGL game>freeze after 10 second of game, before freeze the game is fast, after = freeze!

I use 77, 81 and 66 drivers version and sames résults!
I 've killed my GeForce 440mx and i mid killed my GeForce 5500.

I hate GeForce on my computer! i 'm going to put my beautiful 3dfx 3000, install dirver and playing game like a charm!

Why use a GeForce?

I m' waiting 10 years to can to use it on my motherboard, after infinite reboot or protection error, when i can to load Windows i can't to use direct3d or OpenGL!

Do you thing it's easy to run glquake? did you say how to lunch it? I 've downloaded quake 1.6 and installed it, after i 've patched it with Glquake 97 and i run the game, False! the game say me that it's need glide.dll drivers! i 've copied them in Windows\system, after the game's loading and , nothing! again need glide driver! i've goes on internet to know how to do! i find ! i must to delete opengl32.dll from quake directory!
And now the game run ok, but it's freezing like quake3! like all OpenGL game on my windows95b or windows98se!

FPS in direct 3d
640x480 >
unreal tournament demo 1 to 3fps >lol
3dmark 99 race 1 >2.5fps >LOL

I don't thing i've a bad drivers, i thing my motherboard can 't use GeForce! at dos boot i have a emm386 error! i can't to load it, i don't know why?

Sorry for my bad English, i'm a french.

I get 36.1 fps in GLQuake with a POD-100 and NVIDIA Detonator driver version 77.72 when using a GeForce2 MX440. I figure that with a POD-83, you should get around 28 fps.

I don't know why your GLQuake is freezing. Perhaps you have some memory timings set incorrectly. The MSI-4144 may not work properly with the POD-83 in WB mode. Maybe the GeForce 5500 doesn't work properly with this motherboard? Not enough current getting to the card?

Try using the GeForce MX400 with Detonator v12.41 and the POD-83. If it fails, try Detonator v12.41 with the Am5x86. This will tell you if your motherboard has an issue with the Pentium Overdrive. Many PCI motherboards I have tested were not fully compatible with the Pentium Overdrive, even if the manual says they are compatible. If the Am5x86 also has problems with the GeForce2 MX400, then it is probable that the MX400 is not compatible with the MSI MS-4144. What frame rates do you get with the Voodoo3-3000 and the POD-83 in GLQuake?

S3 Wrapper for GLquake works only with Virge, best with Virge 325 4Mb.
For 2Mb you have to force 320x200 Resolution.

Trio3D is different thing.

The best chipset and GPU depends on which motherboard and CPU you are using. Not all combinations are compatible. Generally, I like the SiS 496 chipset with the Voodoo3 and the UMC 8881 chipset with the Voodoo2 combined with a Matrox card (G200 or older). The GF2MX also functions well on the UMC 8881 if using the Am5x86.

Hi, has anyone tried if a S3 Savage4 PCI works on a UMC based motherboard? 😀

RetroPc I: Asus P3V4X - PentiumIII 1000MHz - 256MB Ram - Geforce3 Ti 200 - SLI VoodooII 12MB - Aureal Vortex2 - HDD 80GB - Win98 SE
RetroPc II: Asus P5A - K6-2 333MHz - 64MB Ram - Geforce2 MX - Voodoo 4MB - Soundblaster AWE64 - HDD 13GB - Win95

About the S3 Savage - I would like to know as well. Please report back if you find the answer.

In response to 386SX's comment, I think somebody tried a Voodoo4 and/or Voodoo4 on the UMC8881-based motherboard and it did not display anything on the screen.

For a UMC8881-based system, I recommend a Voodoo2 if you want to do run 3D games. A nice 2D pairing might be an S3 Trio, Virge, or Matrox G200 or older. For a SiS496-based system, I recommend a Voodoo3 if you want to run 3D games.

To the contrary, Trio3D IS Virge but with a 128-bit memory bus and some bug fixes that were present in GX2.

S3 Trio3D/2x - is this just a rebadged ViRGE or more?
