Hi

I am a long-time, low-level user of DOSbox. Recently, I was not able to run one of my favourite games, "Betrayal at Krondor". I have tried several other games in my collection, and they worked normally. (I remember trying out Goblins3 and Alley Cat, but there were others).

Previous to these latest difficulties, I have run this version of Krondor on this DOSBox on this computer several times.

I am running DOSbox 0.74.

I did not conciously change any of the settings on Krondor, and I am pretty certain that I have not done any changes to the DOSbox setup. (I cannot guarantee this 100%, since it has been a long while since I last ran Krondor on it, but I change settings (other than CPU speed) very rarely).

I was on a business trip last weekend, and I ran Krondor on the DOSBox on my work computer (this is what triggered my desire to do a more thorough playthrough). It worked perfectly. Yesterday, I tried to copy this version of Krondor to my home computer, but the result was the same.

When I run the game, the window turns black and just hangs. The DOSBox functions (speed up/down, key mapper, record, etc.) are running, but the game seems not to be. On some occasions, when I let the game "run" for while with the screen black, some coloured spots/lines appear momentarily here and there. There is never any sound.

I am running DOSBox on Windows 7 I believe.

I said I had not touched the Krondor setup before having these issues, but after they surfaced I tried playing with the soundcard settings as well as using the "Restore Dynamix Default Settings" option, just to have tried it.

I have been downloading and running a fair few games from GOG.com that run through an autoload of DOSbox. I don't know if those games configure DOSbox in any way?

Anyone experienced anything similar, where a single game (there could be others, I have not yet tried all my games) decides not to run?

But I already did that. Kinda. I had the game that was working fine on my work computer, and installed that game on my home computer in a separate folder. That version doesn't work either.
