did 256mb 72 pin EDO ever exist? like as in a single stick?

Looks like the answer is "yes"
But they appear impractically large
I'd wonder if any motherboard would support them (not server ones).

i wonder if non ECC versions existed?
In theory, these modules could work on i440FX socket 8 boards. Although most of them states 512 MB as a maximum amount of RAM. The chipset itself does support 1 GB - I had no problem using 4x 256MB 168pin ECC EDO DIMM.

i see. i have an old AMD 586 laptop. picked up a 128mb for it but, 256mb would make it waaayyy more usable with win 98. though i'm gonna keep it on 95 since i'm sure some game or program works better on 95 than 98.

Does it only have one slot?
Anyway, 128MB is fairly decent for 98.

ONlY 1 slot, i guess having and SSD will help. looking at getting an IDE SSD but, there is much room in the hdd compartment it might possible to shove in an IDE to SATA and user a real quality SSD sans AHCI. proably wiser to use the cheaper ide ssd since the bus will be limited anyways. then next up would be replacing the screen with a non ghosting modern screen.
