So while I'm playing around with V1 and V3 and comparing some games with V1 patches and V2+ patches I noticed how, under pure DOS, the brightness / gamma settings are quite different.

Does anyone know how I could get them to be of similar brightness / gamma?

In pure DOS the V1 is noticeably brighter compared to the V3.

Voodoo Graphics is 1.7, Voodoo2 and after is 1.3

IIRC

Older Glide games (developed as in Voodoo Graphics being the only Voodoo card worth having) often will be in 1.7, including the 3dfx MiniGL-based games (The pre-q3 quake tech stuff). Not to be confused with the 3dfx OpenGL ICD as that shouldn't have a forced-up default gamma setting.

Thanks!

So if I set the V1 to 1.3 via environment variables the output should be fairly similar?

Yeah, though I can't speak that from experiences as I do not have a V1 on hand.

I will try it, thanks.

I'll have some footage / images of Tomb Raider from V1 and V3. Is this useful to you?

Ok the V1 was easy to change Gamma per variables.

The V3 seems to reset it when you launch the game with the voodoo rush patch. Doesn;t matter about the driver setting in Windows or environmental variables it's always the same.

V1 Gamma of 1.0 seems to match the V3 the best. This is for Tomb Raider only. Windows default setting for V3 is 1.3 for Games and 1.0 for desktop.

Ok. Well I'm going to play with this system for a while longer so I can still help out. Put something together with a batch file and dropbox it. It has to be easy or with simple to use instructions. I'm not a 3D Engine guru you know...

Sorry 😊

Artex, I got that SATA HDD bay you are using. Really liking it and it's in my current Time Machine 😀 The LED is a bit bright but not a big deal.

Glad you like it! Yeah, the light is a bit much but the drive "swapability" makes up for it. 😎

What kind of bay are you talking about, if I may ask?
