Have you met games that run on Pentium, but do not run or run incorrectly on Pentium II due to architectural differences between P6 and P5?

I have tried it back in the days, when my brother bought his first Celeron 400 Mhz Slot1 system.. Some games where more (to speedy) then using a pentium 1 system.. If you only want to run dos games, i think the best option would be a pentium 75-100 mhz class machine. (without the mmx technology)

~ At least it can do black and white~

You could build a faux 486 class system, by disabeling the cache on higher grade cpu's.
You should then aim for a K6-3 system, or k6-2, when disabeling cache.
As many, if not all, P-III system do not have cache on the mainboard. (so I have heard)

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.
Those cakes make you sick....

It really depends on what games you play. But yes there are speed sensitive games that cause issues on faster machines. Now the Pentium II can also be slowed down but it ends up so slow that even playing old games like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade becomes frustrating.

I remember, the isometric space shooter Zaxxon was impossible to play on a 486DX-33 back in the days. When you run the program, first thing you see was your crashed plane on the nearest obstacle. 😀
