Hey guys, I have a question for you.

I have an AVermedia Game Broadcaster HD C127, and I've been trying to get it to work for a while now. It didn't work with my PowerMac G3, but that's to be expected.

It semi-works with other computers though. The only problem is, it seems like no matter what recording format or bit rate I choose, the audio always has skips and glitches. This is using D-Sub video and line-in audio. I tried RecCentral's uncompressed AVI, and compressed MP4 formats, and a range of bitrates from low to high.

The preview window (and the audio quality during recording) is flawless. It's only the rendered files that come out glitchy. Playing them in a video application renders the audio skips as silence, Vegas renders them as a buzzing/looping problem.

Any ideas?

Hmm there could be LOTS of reasons.

I'm just going to make a few suggestions / ideas...

Download the very latest Recental + driver. It's one installer that installs both. Before that uninstall everything. Do NOT install that Media Center.

I have the Game Broadcaster and usually use:

MP4
20 Mbps for video
1024x768 (but this depends on what I capture)
256 kbps for Audio
Weave interlace

But I would start by uninstalling everything from AVerMedia and any codec packs as well.

What sound card is your line-in device? Does it behave differently for HDMI audio?

Looks like updating the software actually did a world of good. Recording seems stable and doesn't suck up file space even at 20 Mbps.

How does the software handle resolution switching? Do you have to make sure your recording resolution matches the resolution of your software/desktop for best results?

Because I use a VGA scaler for many projects, to be honest I'm not sure anymore. I believe that, at least through HDMI, the image gets scaled to what resolution you set. With VGA it adjusts and starts a new file if you switch resolution.

But again, just try it out, your results might vary.

When I capture MS-DOS footage from DVI I do it at 1024 x 768. If I use the scaler, well I now use another AVer Media product, but usually I also use 1024 x 768. 1024 x 768 is also the highest resolution it will do 60 fps. 1280 x 1024 it only does 50 and 1920 x 1080 30. It can't do 1600 x 1200 at all which is a shame.

Ah OK. I'm still playing with it, but I'm surprised to see it can't capture 800x600, for whatever reason.

Shows up as out of range.

It can, on some cards. Others it just glitches out. It's not perfect...

Sorry for lack of action. Been busy with work and am deploying a Win 98 machine to (hopefully) do a better job with 800x600. 😀

Alright, the Win 98 machine came together and I've been capturing at 1024x768. It's got an ASUS MX440 which behaves much more predictably than the VooDoo.

Everything is going well! Thanks for the help, Phil.
