In the old japanese DOS/V game "NANPA2", VDMS can't play the Back Ground Music(BGM). The effect sounds also is not played. I'm now using 'Audio Codec'97' (Logitek) and Windows XP professinal. How can I get the BGM? please help me.

Well, for a start, technically, what do you mean by BGM? Is it AdLib, MIDI, what?

Also, presuming there is SoundBlaster support in this game, is it SoundBlaster 16? Pro? Just basic SoundBlaster?

Taking a wild guess that the "BGM" is FM (AdLib or SoundBlaster), you might want to change VDMSound default SoundBlaster16 setting down to a basic SoundBlaster (1.0x). The SB16 and some "Pro" cards used an OPL3 FM-audio chip and the game might be attempting to use OPL3. Choosing a basic SoundBlaster should force it use OPL2.

well,i think the bgm(back ground music) in Nanpa2 must be written in FM(Adlib) codes as it really can be well emulated by dosbox 0.61 when i only open the adlib emu function. What's more i've tried as u suggested to set down the audio-chip but unfortunately it still doesn't work .The similiar problem happens when i try to run DRA4(released by the same game company),which gives out dreadful sound instead. All those two games can be well emulated by dosbox 0.61,it seems that Vdmsound really has some technical problems in coping with the FM sound emulation. :p

frankly the musics in those 2 games mentioned still can not be perfectly emulated by dosbox 0.61. But i definately got some positive feedback from other players to say they can get excellent sound. I'm using yamaha ac-xg sound card(ac 97 compatible),i hope it's not my hardware problems that occur the boring performancn :-p
