When i try to run wing commander armada with VDMSound i get this:
VDMSound DOS loader, version 2.01 (Aug 04 2001)
Copyright (C) 2000-2001 Vlad ROMASCANU.

VDMSound is covered by the GNU Public License (GPL), version 2 or later, as
published by the Free Software Foundation, Inc. (http://www.fsf.org/).

Loading 'VDDLoader.dll'...
Successfully loaded & initialized (hVDD = 0x01).

EMS driver is not VCPI compliant.

Press any key to continue . . .

Any idea what i can do to fix this?

Just to add more info:
In the help file it says that if you get this message that means you are either trying to run the program through os/2 or windows.
I am using win2000. I am about to upgrade to xp. Will this help at all? Also will this program just never work in windows??

This has been addressed a couple of times in the past. VCPI is not supporetd at all, AFAIK, by Windows (any kind of Windows). Search for VCPI on this forum or on Usenet. Your only option right now is a Windows port of the game (see recent posts about Wing Commander on this forum), or a full-fledged PC emulator like Bochs, VmWare or Connectix VirtualPC.

I'm closing this thread.

No and no. Our best hope here is that there'll be a full-fledged PC emulator that can run everything.

In the meantime, you might try DosBox at:
http://dosbox.zophar.net/

If you're going to install XP, I'd recommend setting up a dual-boot.

1st, install a DOS-based OS (DOS, Win9x,etc...), then install XP afterwards and XP will set up a dual-boot menu for you.
Note: You want a relatively small partition at the beginning of the hard drive for DOS/Win9x. Leave the remaining space available for XP.

This gives you a "safety net". Whenever you have a game that won't work on an NT-based OS, you can try it on the DOS/Win9x side.

Since this is something that VDMSound can't help you with...post any further questions in the DOS forum of VOGONS:
