Just got a Abit PE-5 (socket 5) motherboard and there is a strange error that keeps occurring.

When I turn on the system the board gives an error: CMOS Checksum Error and turns all the setings in the BIOS to default. If I go into the BIOS and changes a setting and then restarts the system it works without problems. The clock also works fine and I get no error for bad battery. I just replaced the battery on the board.

Could this be an error in the BIOS chip itself that makes it corrupt its data when power is turned off?

Can you Clear ESCD and see if that fixes it?
