Iam have made a start on my 286-12 mhz machine few days ago. But before i will finish this build completely, i want to benchmark all of my ISA graphics cards i have laying around..
I wanted to determine some of the system settings, so iam using a dos program called `checkit`. I thought the version is 2.1
In this utility there is an option in the menu to benchmark the whole system with.. It calculates the processor speed, video speed (characters/second) and the NPU speed
I also have seen that it is possible to benchmark graphic cards..(in characters/second)
I only want to know if the results of this benchmark is very trustfull? I only can tell that it measured `video speed`. So i really dont know if it has anything to do on gaming graphics speed..
And how does this program scale with the processor speed? That to speedy graphics would be bottlenecked by the processor.
I had measured a ATI 1024 card and would do about 5k
One of my S3 card would do 4.5k (after disable the 8mbit rom )
The weird thing is that a Mach32 with Vram doesnt come any further then 3k and also a diamond speedstar have also a same speed..
Weird thing is that a unknown (i think) a cheap v-tech 16 bit isa card would do simply 4.5k on score.. ( i thought it would just a cheap graphics card, but literally have surprised my)
Can this software been trusted?
I will rerun the benchmark now..
ATI Mach32 will do: 2913 characters/second.
The Unknown VGA bios card will do 4248 characters/second (what seems to be really good for a cheap looking card)
The S3 card seems to be a PREMIER S3 REV.1.9A by METHEUS CORP. would do 4055 characters/second.
ATI 1024 would do 5112 characters/second
~ At least it can do black and white~
