Hello guys, new video. I found this PC at the local recycling center and because the first PC I bought was a black Pentium 4 IBM 8183 I had to have this earlier Netvista machine. Especially since it uses standard mATX motherboards and is a full hight desktop! All in all I'm a bit partial to IBM machines, and this one is a welcome addition to my computer collection. 😁

I had a similar netvista at my office at some point, with a 2.2 or 2.4ghz p4 IIRC... this was a VERY reliable pc , it must have stayed powered on almost a year at some point, never had a single problem.
Great find!

Yeah this machine seems like it's going to be rock solid, I can't wait to slap a better gfx card in it. 🤣

First time I've seen a machine that actually has a Vanta-16 in it. I ended up with 2 or 3 of those cards in a bulk lot a few years ago. I've never actually fired one up.
256MB RAM? Sheesh, well at least that was with Win2k and not XP. I ran into a Dell office computer a while back that came with XP and 256MB, the poor thing was already swapping as soon as the owner's boot up programs were loaded.

The first time I ever saw Driver was on QVC when the salesman was demoing a Pentium MMX system. I remember it being really choppy, but at the time it looked amazing in spite of that. The guy was having too much fun for his own good, laughing hysterically and hardly able to hold his presentation together. It was obvious he was more engrossed in playing the game than selling the computer. He sold me on the game, at least.

Haha yeah Driver is a fucking blast, I love that game. Spent the greater portion of my teen years playing it, in fact I loved it so much I bought the second one for PS1 and the third one for PS2 (I now have a copy for PC also). They got the physics perfect with that game, it's basically like playing a 70's car chase film like "Gone in 60 Seconds" or "Bullit". It just feels dead on. 🤣

When I first rented Driver for the Playstation, I got stuck with that dumb "interview" parking garage mission at the beginning. It very nearly blocked me from discovering how awesome the game was. I was at the end of my rope and decided I'd try *one* more time, then I was going to shut the game off and forget about it. I'm lucky I somehow passed the mission on that last attempt. And then the real game opened up and I fell in love with it.
That parking garage mission was a terrible, terrible design decision. It tries it's best to kill the game before it even starts. Luckily the PC version can be hacked to get rid of it altogether.

Years later I bought the PC version for cheap and I still play it sometimes. It really is an amazing game.
I was disappointed that they didn't make a PC version of Driver 2. The Playstation is painfully underpowered for that game. It needs the power of a PC even more than the first game did.

Lol Yeah that interview mission is hard and it drove me nuts at first too but now I can do it with my eyes closed. 😜

Yeah I can't believe they didn't make a PC version of Driver 2, and you are totally right the Play Station chugs at times while playing it. PC would have handled it fine, besides by the time it came out they could have made an ever prettier / more complex game had they chose PC.

I'm not into Driver (never played it), but how well would it run on an emulator? I ask because I remember Chrono Cross looking nicer AND not having framerate drops in ePSXe way back (on my Duron 1200 + MX460) compared to my big 1st model PS1.

Runs pretty good in a PS1 emulator.

Never did get the whole Driver fad, Driver was that game your parents bought you when you weren't allowed GTA (Along side GT. Though I was allowed GTA back then). The first game was pretty good, the second game though, those Havana missions - especially the one with the damn truck full of ACME Cartoon bombs - infuriated me, the police were overpowered, you can't get out of the car during a Police chase* (Tanner is stupid apparently) and most of the Rio missions - probably due to the stupid road layout - just combined to get on my nerves. The game also does not save most of the unlockable stuff meaning you have to unlock it every time you fire the game up, constantly have to swap discs and all manner of BS, absolutely no leeway for any user error. The only redeeming feature was Las Vegas. I also remember being mad that they took the exhaust smoke out of Driver 2, I used to find the trails of white asterisks (which turned black if you busted the car up) rather amusing.

Thinking about it, why did they not release it on PC, it would have been so much better.

*Funny thing is, I remember that you also couldn't get out of the car if it was moving. But you can often override the game trying to lock you in if you can get the car airborne - no joke, Tanner appears on the ground instantly.

Ah, Driver. I'll never forget the time, within five minutes of playing the game for the first time, I hit the corner of a building and the car rose upwards against the building like an elevator at a rather phenomenal rate. Wish I still had that savegame, that was hysterical. I knew I was in for a real treat.

Yeah all the driver games had glitches but unlike most glitches these were FUN glitches. You could do some stupid awesome stuff. 🤣

Speaking of driving games though I wish rockstar would actually put some police AI into their games, the cops are so depressingly dumb it's insane. They don't even chase you unless you in GTA unless you've done something completely over the top like shoot a cop or blow up the mayor or something. 🙁
