I have a Toshiba M500d Dual Pentium 3 machine. The manual says it will take up to 1GB (4x256MB) memory. Is it safe to try 512MB modules in the slots? Any chance they'd work?
That seems to have a 440BX chipset. Using incompatible modules shouldn't break anything, but I'm quite sure that 256MB modules is the maximum that can work with a BX chipset. And not even all modules will work (at least not at full capacity), you'll need modules with 16 chips each.
OK. I have some 512MB modules on the way. I've been wondering if they're safe to try. If they'll work at reduced capacity, that will be OK. If not, I'll have to order something else.
Any chance of some pics? Duel CPU's are cool. BX motherboards are cool, so that means I think you have a very cool PC 😉
Got the 512MB modules in today. They seems to work great in the system as 256MB modules. So I've finally got the system maxed out at 1GB RAM, and Xubuntu runs very nicely on it.
