As in, I cannot find a driver.

I built a retro rig consisting of a K6/3+ and installed Windows 2000 SP4 on it. VooDoo 2 SLI and a TNT2 Ultra. The problem is, every IDE DVD ROM I own seems to have a problem reading certain files from the Driver DVD I burned, particularly the VooDoo 2 driver and Rivatuner. Some files read ok, others grind the DVD ROM to a halt and I get dissapearing drive or "unable to read from source" messages in explorer. I have wasted numerous discs and tried multiple DVD Drives, all seem to have the same problem. They are very old, so maybe that is the problem.

Anyhow, I found this old USB2.0 4+2 PCI card in another system, and want to install it into the K63+ so I can simply ferry drivers across with a 1GB USB pen. But I cannot find a driver for this USB card anywhere on the net. I have searched everywhere. I need a windows 2000/XP driver for it. Anyone have any ideas?

It has an ALi chip on it, I found one very similar but with an nvidia (?) chip in the same place on eBay. No driver link though...

The motherboard doesn't have onboard USB?

Yes it is a PA-2013 FIC super socket 7 motherboard with the MPV3 chipset, and has two USB ports on the rear of the board. However I read that these very early USB ports only work properly under Windows XP. Apparently under 95/98/2000 they are only good for keyboards and mice, and will not recognise USB pens etc. I have tested this and it appears to be true. There was a youtube video explaining why somewhere.

Here is the motherboard ...

And the youtube video which mentions the USB problem under any OS apart from XP ...

I have a few boards with MPV3 and USB memory storage works fine in Windows 98SE.

Can't help you with 2000 though 🙁

This is the driver I use:

I've now switched to using PCI Ethernet though.

I am so close to building my dream Socket 7 PC... falling at the last hurdle.

Thanks for the help. I'm gonna keep looking for this mystery driver.

*FOUND IT*

Startech make an identical card only with a green PCB. Downloaded the driver for 2000/XP and it worked. This is it people... the beast has arrived!

Not sure if the Startech drivers are the latest ones available.

ALi/ULi was bought by nVidia back in 2006, so nVidia has their drivers.

See here for the latest one. The 2.20 covers the usb controller chip (M5273) used by your card.

They work great though. Even reads my 16GB pen drives in NTFS and they seem really fast, full USB2.0 speeds. Installing from CD Image files is so much easier this way, and I don't have to cut discs anymore.

Mid way through testing a whole host of GPU's, from 1996-2001, in this K6/3+ system. Fun times! 😁
