Hi guys. got another problem - I recently installed a copy of win95 OSR2 on my second 486 machine. This one uses an odd motherboard with EDO support, PCI, ISA and no PS/2 mouse header. I have two COM mice but none seem to be working. I tested the mice with my PIII system just to make sure - no dice - both are dead. So the only way I can get a mouse on this thing now is USB... I installed my trusty NEC USB 2.0 card, and it was detected and installed properly (got USB Mass Storage Device support now too witch is sweet!) but it won't do one simple thing I need it to do... it doesn't have HID drivers, so my USB mouse shows up as an unknown device.

Does anyone have a set of Generic Human Interface Device drivers for windows 95? I really want to get my mouse working on this thing...

Had the same problem as you, you can try logitech mouseware, or Microsoft drivers and see if they can detect your mouse, if not your SOL

mouseware doesn't work, already tried it. What microsoft drivers are you speaking of?

I need some sort of generic HID pointing device driver - there has to be one someware. If not i'll be forced to install win98se... I'm not changing the MB - it's the only 486 board I have with 512kb cache, EDO support (I have allmost no FPM ram!),decent PCI support and 586 cpu support.

Maybe try Microsoft Intellimouse drivers - one of the earlier versions. I seem to remember needing to install them to get my mouse operating properly at one point..

Well I did install the Intellimouse drivers and it now shows the mouse as "unknown device" under the HID category - close, but no cigar... 🙁

EDITED: OK so I figured out that my mainboard ( SR-M401-A ) either has malfunctioning com ports or proprietary com port headers - since one of my serial mice actually worked fine on my pentium 233 dos rig! Problem is, I can't find anything online about the MB - other that it's a custom job by Pine and is meant for POS systems. Overall it's similar to the Pine PT-423B in all aspects albeit the lack of a PS/2 port and 3.0v CMOS battery support.

so get an ISA card with a com port on it and by pass the header?

I think that's the best option. Upon closer inspection the tracers leadig away from the com port headers are BADLY corroded - witch would explain why it's not detecting my mouse....

Here is a pic of the damage near the com ports:
