Greetings, folks! I've got SiS 496/497 486 PCI Motherboard with AWARD BIOS. Well, in general it operates fine, but when I turn it on, it beeps *problem with video card* then shows vga bios, counts memory, beeps good post and boots OS. The video card is PCI S3Virge/DX. The most interesting thing is that it DOES NOT behave so being started out of case. Any suggestions?

Either you have a misplace metal mount shorting something, or maybe there is a hairline crack in the board which is being stressed

May be a dumb question, but are you using metal or plastic risers between the board and the case?

I am using brass risers. Does it affect somehow?

Well... If it has a crack, there should be some other consequences than such a strange POST? Maybe I should try to load it as much as possible until it shows some other problems 😕 😕 😕

Guys, I've just discovered a very interesting phenomena! All that time i plugged that mobo to my philips 170X5 LCD and it did *strange post*. If i start it without display connected, it does *strange post* too. But if I plug it to my philips 105s crt, the POST IS FINE! I tried three other S3 in all PCI slots with the same behavior! Looks like that those S3 kinda dislike modern displays...Never saw anything like that...

Make sure you plug the monitor and the computer into the same grounded outlet
