I have a few of these cards in hopes to be able to hook on additional storage for any one of my 486 and earlier machines if I choose so. However they fail at detecting any of my flash solutions.

I've tried Compact Flash to IDE... the Syba CF to IDE adapters make the screen go scrambly... the Chinese CF to IDE adapters don't, but it won't detect any CF card.

I've tried a Transcend 2GB IDE SSD, no go.

I've tried an IDE to SD adapter, no go.

Any ideas why? Or a way to remedy this? 😐

That's odd I have a whole bunch of those Promise EIDE MAX isa cards. I'll have to check on this to see if any are hooked up to CF's.

If you do have some that are, please let me know the CF make and model, what CF to IDE adapter you use, and possibly a BIOS version of the Promise EIDE controller? 😀

Okay, I figured out what the deal was. (Probably would have helped if I simply would have read the manual. 🤣 )

So basically I kept trying to hook the drives direct to the Promise card itself, which probably would have been alright if it were the primary controller instead of the secondary controller. My primary controller has been the onboard controller on my Gateway 2000 4SX-33 mini desktop.

Turns out, I needed to set the CMOS on the system to type 1 for the onboard IDE, then plug the Transcend IDE card (and likely other flash methods) into the primary IDE connector on the motherboard. I tried that, and it actually worked!

I'm honestly thrilled about this! 😎 I never realized it would utilize the primary IDE as well. 🤣

Glad to hear. I was about to go through a few systems to see which ones had CF attached to this controller, I know I have at least one CF to this controller and couldn't think why it would be different for you...but you solved it!
