So my awe 64 shows SB16 device, game port, and midi installed but 98SE will not output sound, also under sounds in CP no option there either. Anyone got an idea? I'd use the driver disk we have on vogons drivers to install it but it says for AWE64 gold and not sure it will work with my AWE64 not gold or value

Windows 98 SE has the drivers on the disc and should automatically install them. Check device manager and see what the resources are. Sometimes it gets odd ones. Disabling not needed resources in BIOS helps. Also make sure BIOS is set to PnP capable.

Also, you can test the card in DOS with diagnose.

Are the resources used in DOS (IRQs, ports and DMA) the same ones detected by Windows 98?

Yes, please check the resources in Windows 98 SE. Sometimes removing the device in device manager and restarting the PC can fix things. So can changing the ISA slot. But also disable the serial and parallel ports in the BIOS if you don't use them.

moved it to the upper of the two ISA slots, its working now. It was sharing the IRQ with my USB card for some reason, now its not
