This came with Personal Computer World in December 1996 (Uk magazine}, it's either freeware or shareware. I've had a folder with it in ever since that I've kept on my main machine but an up to date PC has long since have been too fast to run the game [when it starts it does a speed check]. I have the PCW floppy somewhere but my main PC has no FDD these days.

I'm now trying the game in DosBox. It does the processor and video card speed check, then tells me:

Disk Access Error
Cannot find the datafiles in the current path

Yet the files are in the same folder as the anoid.com file!

Any ideas?

Probably a mounting error. If there is a config file with path statements the game might think it is in, say "C:\ANOID", but if you have the game's folder mounted as "C:", then the path should be looking to "C:\". The best way to avoid this problem is to run the install from within DOSBox and use the same mountings to run the game.

BTW, since this is a DOSBox specific question it should probably be in the DOSBox forum. Perhaps a mod would be so kind as to move it for you.

You can also try and put the game in c:/dosgames and then mount c:/dosgames as c:/ (and then cd anoid, anoid)

I tried both your suggestions and while I was fumbling with my new red-switch keyboard [too sensitive for normal use imo] I saw a dosbox screen telling me a file was read only. I probably copied the files from a backup CD. Needless to say the game works fine now!

I see it's shareware and I could register for more levels. Unfortunately it's just a PO Box to reply too.

Thanks for the help btw, if I hadn't followed your suggestions I wouldn't have discovered the problem.
