Does anyone have a possible source for a pair of dual Slot 2 Xeon retention mechanisms? (i.e. the plastic channel bracket and clampdown "lid") It's for a pair of dual Xeon boards, an Intel C440GX and MS440GX. Sure the massive weight of a slot 2 xeon will keep it in the slot fairly well, but having the proper bracket would be good for peace of mind.

Usually buying a another complete motherboard + CPU set will be a cheaper and faster way to obtain them, than looking for someone with exactly this part for sale. I have a similar problem with VRM for my PIII Xeons - I paid less for the motherboard with CPUs and VRMs than the price + shipment of a single VRM>

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.

He's looking for Slot-2, not Slot-1. 😀

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if it's common to find "standard" slot-2 brackets, since those CPUs were more often used in bigger machines with proprietary layouts. I get the impression they might have all their own ways of mounting the processors, but maybe it's more standardized than I thought.

Maybe it would be easier to find a broken Slot 2 motherboard and get the retention mechanisms from there?

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

I did see that, i did consider it for a bit, it would be nice to have a spare C440GX for one thing. Maybe next payday 😀

Yeah i've got enough both 5V and 12V VRM's to keep me going for a good while, though they're not usually that hard to find, at least compared to the dual retention mechanisms.
